Fun Places

Action on N

  N and 55th
Pool hall in Brooklyn. No more smoking allowed by law makes it actually doable on a date. If you feel comfortable doing this.

Amsterdam Billiards

On Amsterdam avenue. There's also one on the East Side.
Nice pool hall with bar. Waitress comes to the tables to offer you drinks. It really a decent place, with a mini lounge. I recommend.

Astroland

I think off Ocean Parkway, all the way down by the water.
Come on, you haven't been here since you were 5. And it's historic, practically a museum, which we know is a good kosher date.

Atlantic City

At least she'll enjoy the car ride.

Barbequing in strange places

There are all sorts of nooks and crannies in Brooklyn that you can do this illegally. CVS sells a hibachi grill for 6 dollars. Use Match Light charcoal.

Bear Mountain

I think it's just sightseeing. Past Monsey on the Palisades.

Biking

Hey, some people are into this.

Go bowling in Brooklyn

Gil Hodges in Mill Basin, or Maple Lanes in Boro Park (16th and 60th)

Bronx Zoo

Directions

Central Park

Boating, hiking, picnicing, model sailboats, and a zoo.

Chelsea Piers

1-212-336-6666 West Side Highway, opposite 22nd Street
Bowling, ice skating, driving range, and some arcades in bowling area.

Chicago City Limits

1-212-888-5233 53rd, on the west side    http://www.nytheatre.com/nytheatre/ccl115.htm
This is a hilarious comedy show. Similar to the "Who's line is it anyway?" show. I went with Sarah and friends and we all loved it.

Coney Island Batting Range & Go Kart City

1-718-449-1200 Take Ocean Parkway down to the water
You can probably find something to do here: They have batting cages, go carts, minigolf, rock climbing, etc. See their website.

The Comedy Cellar

1-212-254-3480 117 MacDougal Street, New York, NY 10012
Great show. Make sure you don't scare her with this choice! At least give her a chance to opt out.

Demonstration

  Anywhere
Try to make sure it's legal, or you might have a date with someone in a blue hat. What I'm trying to suggest here, and no, I've never done it, is that it may be fun to join a protest of some sort, or maybe to watch and laugh, and take pictures with the speakers. A similar but more normal idea would be to go to a parade.

ESPN zone

  Times Square
Rather obvious choice. You'll end up there sooner or later. It's also fun to browse Times Square. Barcode, another bar/arcade place, it a block away. I think it's on 42nd.

Ferry around Manhattan

I haven't done this, but I know a few who have. It's a bit romantic, and could be a good idea if you just like being together, or if you need to talk things over.

Foxwoods Casino

Funtime

Sheepshead bay

Golf

Come to think of it, minigolf is a much better idea. Or the driving range at Chelsea Piers.

Great Adventures

Directions

Hockey game, baseball game

Jillian's

An arcade/pool place out in Long Island. If you get sick of Manhattan and want a nice drive with a girl, why not. I wish I remembered how to get there.

Liberty Science Center

www.lsc.org Liberty State Park, 251 Phillip Street, Jersey City, NJ 07305
I went, and honestly, it feels like it's meant for kids. But on a date, where you go is just a backdrop to the date, and it makes a fine backdrop. Expect to do plenty of talking though. If you don't want to talk, go play arcades.

Minigolf

There are probably a lot of places to do this, but one place I know of is Coney Island Batting Range. See entry above. I took a look online and found there's a place called Five Towns Minigolf in Lawrence, if you're in the area.

Motorboating

I assume there's someplace around here that you can rent one, but I don't know where.

Go to a movie

UA at Sheepshead bay, Loews at 34th, 42nd, AMC at 42nd, and I think there's a Loew's at 19th and Broadway. Always use Fandango!

Museum of Natural History

There's also a planetarium.

Our Name is Mud

We never actually went, but we want to. You get to paint pottery. It could be romantic. On an early date, however, I suspect it could create an awkward situation if one of you paint hearts and symbols of love, and the other does not. They're open late I think Thursday nights.

New York Aquarium

http://www.nyaquarium.com  Surf Avenue & West 8th Street in Brooklyn, NY 11224
My brother in law Eli says that it's a nice place to go in the winter because it's indoors. It's in Brooklyn, which can be a big plus sometimes.

Nyack

I think first stop after the Tappanzee Bridge
A quaint town right after the Tappanzee Bridge. You can look at the shops, and sit on the benches by the sea.

Palisades Mall

I think it's at exit 12 on the Thruway.
Dave 'N Busters and a smaller arcade. They have a ferris wheel inside. I like Barnes and Noble.

Plane Watching

Do this at your own risk - of being dumped.

Popcorn Indiana

http://www.daleandthomaspopcorn.com
I don't understand what is so special about this place, but people that go actually like it. I think you choose flavors of popcorn or something. Don't plan to spend your whole date there. Maybe take popcorn to Central Park.

Go to a play

  http://www.ticketcentral.com
C'mon, take her out to a Broadway show. She'll love you for it.

South Street Seaport

It's nice down by the docks. As far as I can tell, the only real attraction is some shopping.
